INTERPOL Global Conference on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling
On 10 September, Kevin Hyland, Special Advisor for the Santa Marta Group, presented the keynote at seventh INTERPOL Global Conference on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
This annual, global event brings together participants from law enforcement agencies and specialised units engaged in border security and countering crimes related to vulnerable communities (human trafficking, migrant smuggling and crimes against children), regional and international organizations, private sector, academia, think tanks, research bodies and NGOs.
This year’s conference focused on innovative solutions to fight human trafficking and migrant smuggling, with a focus on data analysis and financial flows. It was co-hosted by the Federal Police of Argentina and the Ministry of Security, with funding by the United Arab Emirates and the INTERPOL Foundation for a Safer World.
‘Santa Marta Group will be working on a set of principles, including tainted money, to see the introduction of meaningful prevention strategies. Other areas include transparency and accountability of government procurement and private sector supply chains. The internet free of human trafficking and exploitation as a legal requirement.’
